Optimal Dental Health

A dental emergency is any situation where you are in pain, discomfort, or at risk of further harm to your teeth, gums, or mouth. This can include toothache, swelling, broken or knocked-out teeth, trauma to the mouth, lost crown, bridge or veneer, or signs of infection such as abscesses. At Optimal Dental Health, we treat emergencies with urgency and compassion, focusing not only on immediate relief but also on your long-term wellbeing.

We offer same-day appointments whenever possible. If you’re in pain or have an urgent issue, call us straight away, and we’ll do our best to see you promptly. Even outside of regular hours email us, we may be able to help or advise on what to do next. Your comfort and peace of mind matter to us.

In most cases, we can relieve pain and stabilise the issue in a single visit. This may include placing a temporary dressing, draining an abscess, smoothing a sharp edge, regluing a lost crown or veneer or extractions when appropriate. Our priority is to make you comfortable and prevent further damage while supporting your body’s natural healing process.

We open evening appointments up until 6:30pm every Thursday. Our practice is closed on weekends, so if you have a dental emergency, please email us and we will get back to you on the next working day.

Yes. With our holistic approach and relaxing environment, we do everything we can to put patients at ease here at Optimal Dental Health. We offer a range of natural remedies before your appointment should you feel particularly anxious before your treatment. Our friendly reception team will be available to support you.

The most common dental emergencies we see are toothaches caused by decay, infection, or cracked teeth. Pain can vary from mild discomfort to intense throbbing, often accompanied by swelling or sensitivity. We take a thorough, whole-person approach, looking at not just the tooth, but also underlying factors such as stress, diet, and general health.

If it is a baby tooth then just keep it safe until your appointment. If an adult tooth try to handle it by the crown (not the root), and keep it moist, ideally in milk or in your mouth between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately. The sooner we see you, the better the chance of saving the tooth.

We aim to minimise antibiotic use wherever safely possible. Not all infections require antibiotics, often, the root cause can be addressed with dental treatment such as drainage, cleaning, or removing the source of infection. We’ll always assess your individual case and only prescribe antibiotics if clinically necessary (high temperature or large swelling), taking into account your overall health and preferences.
